How Many Zones Do I Need For A Conversion Kit?

A good rule of thumb is that smaller homes usually require less coverage. But don’t worry, there’s an easy way to learn how many zones you need.
  • If your home has a pre-existing traditional alarm system, the zones are most likely listed by the keypad or inside of the alarm system box (the one with all the wires). Count them and voila - you’re ready to select the right Konnected panel!
  • Not sure how many zones you need for your new pre-wired home? The industry standard is grouping your windows together - each floor or cardinal direction is one zone. We also recommend that you keep each door and motion sensor as separate zones to ensure the most precise monitoring possible!

Alarm Panel Pro Features

• Ethernet connectivity & PoE

• ESP32 microcontroller with integrated Wi-Fi

• 5V output & 3.3V triggers

• 12V AUX output & two alarm outputs

• 12 zones

• Expansions ports for interface module(s)

• USB port

• RF shield

• 12V input

What Konnected Users Are Saying

“My experience with the store & setting up the Konnected panel was really easy to accomplish! Plan to purchase more & add-on's!”
Phil S
"The instructions and videos guide you through the connections to the alarm panel, setting up the Konnected app, and then getting it into the SmartThings app. Worked right away out of the box."
Fred K
"OMG, this piece of kit is outstanding and works seamlessly. It kinda pays for itself too because I've made some of my Smart Motion Sensors redundant and then sold them on eBay."
Stuart H

HOW MANY ZONES DO I NEED?

A zone in the context of alarm systems refers to a sensor or a group of sensors. Each zone in your system will show up in your smart home app as an individual device that you can name. For example, a single door sensor wired to a zone may be named "Front Door". You may also have a group of windows wired together on one zone and call it "Downstairs Windows". A good place to start is by looking at your existing alarm system and count the number of zones. Often the keypad from your old system will have a zone listing either handwritten on a label, or programmed into the display.

What is the difference between conversion and interface?

Conversion kits work as a replacement to your traditional alarm panel or an addition to your new-pre wired home. Interface kits allow you to keep the traditional alarm panel and add smart home functionality to it.

DOES IT WORK WITH MY EXISTING ALARM SYSTEM?

If you'd like to keep using your existing keypad, make sure to purchase one of our Interface Kits (instead of the Conversion Kit). Interface Kits allow you to keep the functionality of your traditional keypad, while adding the all-new smart home possibilities controlled from your phone, tablet or computer. If you want to stop using your keypad and monitor your home only with smart home platforms, choose any of the Conversion Kits. No matter your requirements, Konnected has a solution for you.

Replacement of old alarm system went smoothly

I was able to replace my old alarm system with konnected easily. I have good understanding of electrical systems, and once I had matched all my wired sensors on the old system to the incoming wires it was straight forward to connect. I bought the Pro for the wired Ethernet. The reason for 4 stars is that I did not initially have the Cat 5 for the wired Ethernet, so I tried to set it up through the Wi-Fi interface. I could not get it to work or get to a point where I could update the firmware. Once I got the Cat 5 cable though, everything went smoothly.

Taking Control

Replaced the old Honeywell and XFinity systems with Konnected... very simple installation and works well... was not aware however that a second app was need to monitor the system. Thankfully I already had the SmartThings Hub in my home. Notifications work well and all of my doors and windows are monitored.

Outstanding!

I’ve been following Konnected for a while and when the Pro board was announced, I patiently waited till it became available to pull the trigger. Newly built house here, been here just over two years. The builder installed a standard six zone alarm. I installed the pro board and was able to use all 12 zones. I’m using Hubitat HSM and so far it is great. Can’t wait to see what’s on the roadmap. Keep up the good work!

Great Alarm Panel

My original plan was to replace my 30+ year old pane; but decided adding the Konnected Panel interface gave us what we needed which was remote access. Installation was easy and it works well. I used the magnetic mount option which I highly recommend. Documentation needs some work. The information is all there in the video tutorials. It just takes some digging. I have another alarm panel that needs to be replaced, I expect it to be even easier. The real work on this project was setting up the user interface. I decided to go with Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi. Installing Home Assistant on the Raspberry Pi was very easy. Learning Home Assistant took considerable effort. Here is another case where better documentation would help for users new to Home Assistant. Overall I highly recommend the Konnected Alarm Panel Pro and the interface modules.

Just an Amazing System that Fell Into Place with Our Existing Equipment

Ever have a home automation/electronics idea that just kept working out? We were considering selling our home. I figured getting the alarm system in order would help a bit. After looking around (was NOT going to sign up for another scam security monitoring service) I stumbled on Konnected. The 12 zone board arrived this week. I bought a recessed panel yesterday. It took some doing to fit into the wall, but I got it in. 2 minutes to mount the Konnected board. 1 minute to plug into the existing UPC battery backed power supply. 15 minutes to label the existing wires 15 minutes to plug sensors in 15 minutes for motion sensors and other "random" wiring - alarm (DIDN'T NOTICE IT ABOVE THE LAUNDRY ROOM DOOR BEFORE!!), smoke dection, etc. 5 minutes cable management and cover back on. Looks great! BUT WAIT! How do I control it? Turns out, we already had a Synology RAID system on the network. And it runs Home Assistant! I just got finished configuring everything (30 minutes) and am shocked that, after less than an hour and a half of time spent, we have a functioning home security/automation system up and going. I'm going to follow the tablet console approach next, replacing the existing alarm keypads with old iPad running Home Assistant dashboard. Install post construction junction boxes to hide the usb voltage converters in a way that complies with code. Really happy with this entire system and the supporting documentation/materials.
